Well-established UK bingo brand Gala Bingo has launched a new effort to support animal welfare in a link up with a well-known media figure.
The company has joined forces with Pete Wicks, a reality television star and a well-known proponent of animal rights, to attempt to raise funds for an animal sanctuary.
According to Gala, research shows that as many as two out of five owners of dogs had admitted that they had given their dog up in the past, and one out of every 25 of those in the UK admitted that they’d abandoned their dogs.
Gala also state that most dog owners are likely to buy their pets from breeders, with 35% choosing this option, as opposed to only 20% who get their dogs from animal shelters.
As a result, the company say that they will be working with Wicks to run a fundraiser via a Facebook livestream on December 13. The fund raiser will involve Wicks participating in games with the dogs at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, while giving out prizes to viewers. And, according to Gala, £1 from every share that the Facebook page earns will be going to the Sanctuary.
Speaking about the charity pledge, Wicks, who has recently been appointed as an ambassador for the RSPCA, said that he was keen to improve the wellbeing of vulnerable animals in the UK:
“I’m delighted to be supporting this campaign with Gala Bingo, which will be helping to raise vital funds for Thornberry, a local animal sanctuary doing fantastic work in the north.”
Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, based in Yorkshire, has been involved in rescuing thousands of unwanted pets during its 30 years of operation. The Sanctuary, which is a registered charity, aims to provide care and medical support for unwanted pets and then to match each pet with the right home.
