Mecca Target Younger Bingo Audience

The bingo sector in the UK has been thriving in recent years as new ways of presenting the perennially popular gambling game have proven successful and now one of the industry’s big players is entering the fray in an effort to attract a younger audience.

One of the UK’s most recognisable bingo brands, Mecca Bingo, which is part of the Rank Group have revealed that they will be holding a ‘bingo festival’ in the popular seaside resort of Blackpool. The event will be hosted by Joe Swash, and will include performances from Sister Sledge, Peter Andre and professional dancers from the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing. The event will then conclude with a set from DJ Scott Mills.

The event, which has been dubbed ‘Mecca Fest’ will take place at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom, and will be open to 800 guests though only those who have won a ticket will be on the guest list. The event is set to be held on May 30, and alongside the entertainment, Mecca say that there will be £100,000 worth of prizes available to be won on the night. Bingo fans can earn the chance to take part by playing games on the Mecca website or through playing at Mecca clubs between February 24 and April 19.

According to the digital director at Mecca Bingo, James Boord, the event was conceived as an attempt to engage with younger players and reach new audiences:

“We want to make sure that our customers are at the heart of what we do when it comes to delivering great experiences. To really achieve something exceptional, we need to constantly innovate and explore new ideas. ‘Mecca fest’ is a key part of the broader challenge we are embracing at Rank.”
